I don’t know the answer.
Take these as examples:
1. Churches who are serious way-out as far as doctrine is concerned, lasts for years, decades and centuries. They grow and have fruit on their labour.
Then you find some churches, with good, solid doctrine, and fine Christians as members, and they don’t last very long.
I observed that some of the churches in the first group has done a lot for the poor, the second has done nothing for the poor, or for mission work/evangelism.
2. A pastor, unattractive, talking monotonous is not embarrassed to explain his radical pre-destination views, and berate those who are emotional about conversion. On a Sunday school camp where he is the main speaker, many kids actually really and truly give their lives to the Lord.
Does the fact that he is a humble man, who really trusts God, has something to do with it?
3. A large denomination is instrumental in sustaining a political regime, which denies many people of their basic human rights. God does not strike this church off the face of the earth. (which did give this church chance to repent at a later stage.)
This church also has an efficient social work network, caring for the needs of their members. The church has also for many years funded mission projects under those politically oppressed, including funding schools and hospitals, also funding theological training of the oppressed, and often the salaries of clergy.
Maybe my mathematics is wrong. I’m open to correction….
